Role Playing Games

Who Will You Choose to Be?

It is one thing to read about heroes, or to watch them on any size screen. It is yet another to embody the heroes of a story, taking up sword or pistol or enchanted staff in defense of what you believe. Or perhaps you might choose to tread cautiously into haunted vaults, or stride purposefully into a twilight lord's domain, demanding your due.

That's a huge part of what roleplaying is about - casting yourself as a protagonist in a story you are sharing with everyone at the table. The only limits are your collective imaginations, yet the challenges you face may be truly overwhelming. And the dice? Remember, that's where the real drama is. The chance to succeed or fail lies within these oddly-shaped talismans, and the fortunes of the moment exist in every roll.

Alabama Phoenix Festival celebrates storytelling in all its forms, so come to the table, choose a character, and get ready to experience a story only you can help to tell.

Role playing games are brought to you by Silvermeet Studios and DriveThru RPG. Click here to see the list!

HEROCLIX

You need a hero? We have HEROCLIX! The phenom strategy game that uses your favorite comic book characters in a game that is akin to chess on steroids! There will be constructed tourneys where you can compete for prizes in these battle royales, plus you can click on over to the STAR TREK and LOTR clix formats as well!

LARPing

You say moving game pieces around boards and flipping cards down is all well and good, but you need to live the adventure? Then join TANNER MC for some reality bending LARPing in a game entitled Prophecies of Varo that will run the entirety of the Festival both in time and space! Switch your mind to surreal and join a reality different than what you know plus you get to mess with other people’s minds!

Tanner has put together a site for you to find out more about the rules and how to play the game.  The site will also give you details on how to register your character.  You can visit it here:  Prophecies of Varo

The 501st and Rebel Legion also have a LARP game.  You can find out more by visiting the page here:  501st/RL Diplomatic Mission

Board and Strategy

Variety? You dare say that what we offer needs more variety? Then you will have to deal with Shaunnon and Shannon Drake because they are bringing a library of over 375 different board games, from the classics to the modern, from the simple to the absurd. They will be on hand to teach you a few new tricks and help you remember what you love about some old ones as well!

Video Gaming

PLAY ON CON. Heard of it? Of course you have! Over the last five years, POC has carried the torch for Birmingham fandom by hosting a wide and wild variety of shows, parties...and gaming! Now they're bringing some of that gaming--the video gaming, to be exact--to the Alabama Phoenix Festival!

Vulcan GameboxWe are honored and you will be thrilled as the folks from POC and VULCAN GAMEBOX gear you up to lock and load! PLUS compete in POC’s ROCK BAND COMPETITION for prizes and groupies! We supply the prizes--the groupies are up to you! Get creative on this, though, because you'll be judged not merely on game score but also on performance, stage presence, and costume design by special guest judges! The Rock Band Competition goes down on the main stage in the Cahaba Grand Conference Center.

All Gaming events (except Rock Band) will be hosted in the Hilton Perimeter Park Hotel on Highway 280, so after you register and get your passes head on over and start kicking butt and taking names. Please put names back where you get them from at the end of the Festival as people will probably be needing them in normal life.

Only Grayson's Grey Rangers stand between the Southern Kingdoms and these terrible threats. You are one of those Rangers. Good luck.

Betty Law Morgan invites you to ride a thoat across the yellow plains of Barsoom to deliver urgently needed materials to one of the planet's artificial atmosphere plants.

Sixty earth years after John Carter departs Mars, the green Tharks and red Heliumites are still allies and responsible for the operation of the planet's lifesaving artificial water and atmosphere facilities. The plant nearest Helium requires not only materials for urgently needed repairs but also a new engineer to replace one who has died suddenly and mysteriously. Knowing that there are those who would like to take control of these operations and thus control of Barsoom, the Jeddaks decide to send an airship with the parts. But they are only a distraction; your party will deliver both parts and engineer to the atmosphere plant via ground transport -- riding thoats. Can you get the engineer and materials to the plant before it stops working shorting Barsoom of its precious oxygen?

Burrough's Barsoom draws on existing material from the Savage Worlds universe and material created by SilverMeet's Betty Law Morgan and Sean Patrick Fannon to create an atmosphere reminiscent of 1920s-30s pulp scifi.

Huntsville, AL is "Rocket City, USA" - one of the most high-tech places in the world, and a center of military and aerospace development. It's the kind of place that mad scientists call home, and it's a place of power that draws ancient beings seeking to control the world. Important people are disappearing, people with knowledge and security clearances that give federal intelligence officials cold sweats. Supernatural influences are suspected, which means it's time for the Crew to go to work.

The Crew is an OMNIVERSE Setting, and it uses Savage Worlds.

Lee Ballew, up-and-coming writer and game designer for SilverMeet Studios, presents a whole new face of the Epic High Fantasy setting that is Shaintar.
